Need to turn a rectangular or square image into a perfect circle in Figma? Whether you’re creating avatars, UI elements, or a clean visual layout, there are two simple ways to do it — both fast, flexible, and beginner-friendly.
Method 1: Use Corner Radius
This is the quickest way if your image is already a square.
Steps:
Select your image.

In the right panel, find the Corner Radius setting under the “Appearance” section.

Set it to a large number — for example, 1000
.
Note: This works best when the width and height of the image are equal. Otherwise, the result will be an oval.
Method 2: Mask with a Circle Shape
This method gives more flexibility, especially for non-square images.
Steps:
- Use the Ellipse tool (O) to draw a perfect circle. (Tip: Hold
Shift
while dragging to keep it proportional.)

Resize it to the desired dimensions — for example, 500x500
.

Copy your image as PNG.

Select the circle, right-click, and Paste Here.

Adjust the size and position if needed.
The image will now appear cropped inside the circular shape — a clean, consistent result.
When to Use Each Method
Situation | Use This |
---|---|
You’re working with a square image and need speed | Corner Radius |
You need to control how the image fits inside the shape | Circle Mask |
Both approaches are effective — it just depends on how much control you want over positioning and sizing.
